At Outhats, our felt and straw hats are designed to last. Proper care ensures your hat maintains its shape and character for years to come.
Felt Hats (Wool & Fur)
-
Storage: Store your hat upside down on its crown on a clean surface or in a hat box to bridge the brim and maintain its shape.
-
Dust Removal: Use a soft-bristled brush (horsehair is best). Brush in small, counter-clockwise motions following the natural direction of the fiber.
-
Moisture: If your hat gets wet, shake off excess water and let it dry naturally at room temperature. Never use a hairdryer or heater, as heat can shrink the felt.
Straw Hats
-
Handling: Always pick up your hat by the brim, not the crown, to prevent the straw from cracking.
-
Cleaning: Wipe gently with a damp cloth. For stubborn spots, a mild soap solution can be used, but avoid soaking the straw.
-
Reshaping: If your straw hat loses its shape, you can lightly steam the area and reshape it by hand, letting it cool thoroughly before wearing.
